2017 Economics of Happiness Conference
Santa Fe . USA
The Economics of Happiness Conference, scheduled for October 12 through October 14, 2017 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, will explore and explain how we humans can shift direction – environmentally, economically, and spiritually – from a globalized system of exploitation, inequality, and environmental degradation toward local cultures and economies that support renewal, resilience, and human and planetary well being. The Conference, while identifying the systemic root causes of our interconnected crises, will focus primarily on identifying key strategic shifts and cultivating collaboration toward economic localization.
The Economics of Happiness Conference is guided by a faculty comprised of thinkers, activists, and communitarians from around the globe. Leaders of diverse experience and backgrounds come together to explore numerous themes such as:
- Local food
- Local governance
- Democratic systems, law and policy making
- Local businesses
- Local finance and banking
- Environmental and climate justice
- Health and wellness
- Cultural diversity and equality
- Biodiversity and connecting to nature
- The Commons and the New Economy Movement
- The impact of the economy on our psychology and spiritual well-being.
The Conference will include lectures and panel discussions as well as music, art, and ceremony. Conference attendees, expected to number as many as 450, including activists, educators, students, public policy makers, entrepreneurs, and business leaders, can expect ample opportunity for interaction with one another and with faculty during the three-day program. By the end of the Conference, program sponsors expect to witness increasing collaboration in the Northern New Mexico community toward the development of compelling and constructive support of grassroots localization strategies through hands-on action and policy level initiatives.
The Santa Fe Economics of Happiness Conference is part of a worldwide series of programs conducted under the auspices of Local Futures/International Society for Ecology, a California-based 501(c)(3) organization having as its mission the protection and renewal of ecological and social well being by promoting a systemic shift away from economic globalization towards localization. The Conference’s local sponsor is Reconnect-Today, www.reconnect-today.org
